When the air conditioner is on, which costs more? Cooling the house back down from the oven heat - or - running your oven for an hour?

Hi Dennis, although I haven't sat down to try to put a number on your question, I am, never the less, the cook in our house and instinctively I avoid using the oven on hot summer days and purposely do use it in the winter when its byproduct adds to the heat I would otherwise have to pay for.

But your answer basically boils down to the efficiency of the appliances and how much of that heat you have to remove with air conditioning and how much manages to leak out before the ac gets to it.

Putting the calculations aside, in the big picture, it probably doesn't cost a lot. But like many of the energy leaks in our household budgets, the little ones do tend to add up and adjusting ones cooking styles from season to season can have its benefits. Especially those dinners prepared on the outside BBQ.
