Why I am optimistic about the future of Energy Efficiency industry.

As I sit here typing I am for the in a long time optimistic about our industry. The crash and burn of PACE and subsequently Homestar left many of us wondering if our industry would ever make it to prime time.

I have new found optimism. I am actually excited. In the last month I have seen the following.

Vice President Biden and the news conference regarding Home Score. Agree with it or not it got press. It also got all of us thinking.

A version of Homestar is being implemented in my local area.

I then received an Email this week from my Insurance Agent (State Farm) as part of a monthly campaign that the company produces. Cut costs and waste with an Energy Audit was part of the email.

Today on the way to drop my kids off school I listened to an ad from Home Depot. It was for CO monitors and why brand X was the way to go. Something about safety for your loved ones and how you should care. I thought what about testing for this? Wouldn’t it be nice to have a commercial like this tied into our industry and how we test and have mitigation solutions for CO
problems in the home.

I the open my email and see RESNET have entered into an agreement with Home Depot.

Wow that is allot of action in less than a four week period.

Now if the phone would ring a little more often I would be really excited

Glen, I agree with your sentiment. It takes a while for the ideas, federal/state funds and utility rebates to make it to the consumer/homeowner level. In the meantime, you can find a few ideas for developing your business in our Home Performance Contractor's Business Development Guide special issue.
