As the mantra to "electrify everything" continues to amplify, so does our need to understand electrification and what it really means for Minnesota’s energy future.

Electrification may be the only practical pathway to decarbonization, heightening the importance of having a keen awareness about the challenges it poses for our state. For fresh insights into electrification’s potential impact — and the hurdles we’ll need to cross between here and there — we’ll gather at the Minneapolis Central Library on April 10 to hear from local and national industry leaders who will:

  • outline the potential for electrifying the economy to advance decarbonization,
  • examine some of the technologies that will help drive this transition, and
  • explore the policy implications and regulatory efforts that are already taking shape.

The day’s speakers come with decades of experience in the energy sector, speaking to research and development, emerging grid developments, utility implications, and more.

Keynote Speaker

Sheryl Carter, Natural Resources Defense Council. Carter’s work centers on the development and adoption of energy efficiency and other clean energy strategies.

Panel Presenters

Kate Desrochers, Vermont Energy Investment Corporation. Desrochers specializes in the research and analysis of renewable energy and energy efficiency systems, with a focus on grid modernization and integration.

Ashley Horvat, Greenlots. Horvat leads a new infrastructure ownership model for Greenlots, where she brings over a decade of electric vehicle industry expertise to the company.

Dan Lipschultz, Minnesota Public Utilities Commission. Lipschultz is a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association, and has served as Chair of the Bar Association’s Public Utilities Law Section and its Communications Law Section.

Rick Murphy, American Gas Association (AGA). Murphy works with AGA’s Leadership Team and member companies on the development and execution of a program focused on long-term demand growth opportunities for the natural gas utility industry, exploring new business models and leadership strategies.

Ben Schoenbauer, Center for Energy and Environment. Schoenbauer conducts research on new and innovative technologies, and ideas related to residential and commercial energy efficiency.

Moderators

Jessica Burdette, MN Department of Commerce, Energy Resources. Burdette oversees staff and programs to develop, promote, and implement energy efficiency and energy conservation through administration of CIP.

Megan Hoye, Center for Energy and Environment. Hoye focuses on advancing the clean energy impacts of research and asserting opportunities for innovation through energy planning, customer analysis, training, and engagement techniques.

For the most informed perspective, attendees will hear from voices that range from emerging tech to an evolving grid, and from ongoing natural gas reliance to electric innovations. It’s sure to be a lively conversation.
