What is a Green Building Rating System?

As the demands for Green Buildings increase, so does the demand for comprehensive rating systems that define exactly what a Green Building is. While it may seem like having a rating system for Green Buildings would confine Green Building and discourage innovation, this is not the case. Many different Green Building rating systems that are currently in place encourage innovation and builders who incorporate particularly innovative aspects into their Green Building can earn extra points and…

More HERS Ratings Expected in 2015

The Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) announced its collaboration with the International Code Council last week in an effort to help home builders transition to the new 2015 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC). In the upcoming version of the residential building code, RESNET's HERS Index will be an optional compliance path — some people are saying that this compliance path represents the most significant change coming to 2015 IECC

How to Talk to a Builder

Recently I was talking to one of our HERS raters who said that one of the reasons he prefers going after the existing home market is that he’s more comfortable talking with homeowners than with builders. He’s afraid that builders will see his lack of construction knowledge and send him packing.

What can you do to overcome this fear? Take heed of these points, and you’ll be fine:
