The Math on Solar Hot Water in Hawaii

I got a question from a PV salesperson about SHW, went to energy code trainings and SHW came up, and have been reminded a lot lately that SHW is a viable option. I had to write it down to organize it before it all went away. Here in Hawaii, passive solar systems are prevalent because we don't have to worry about freezing so much. Home Energy Savings In An Unlikely Place

When thinking of the best way to save mother nature, it's likely that the last thing on your mind would be a gutter system. Well, surprise, maybe it's time to get out there and not only clean that gutter system but perhaps install a water storage system to make better use of water resources in your city.

Many homeowners interested in the practice of permaculture find that saving water, heat, and land to be amongst the most important factors in sustainability.

Permaculture is…

When Good Incentives Go Bad

It’s a common practice to try to encourage or change behavior with incentives. Parents do it all the time. Have you ever agreed to do something for the reward that was promised upon completion? Finished your dinner so you could have ice cream? Or as Pink Floyd famously sang “how can you have any pudding if…

Spray foam on attic deck to stop mold

I am working with an insulation company who has already applied 2" of closed cell foam over the deck of a roof deck that has been remediated for mold twice.
