I don't want to seem self-serving AND I do want folks to know about the blog that Fluke sponsors. I'm one of the prime authors (yes, The Snell Group is still 100% independent of sales!) and spend a…Continue

Rebuild the Dream

Posted on June 23, 2011 at 10:44am 0 Comments

Many readers will remember Van Jones from the 2009 ACI conference. He is a smart guy and a brilliant presenter. He also, of course, got on someone's sh*t list and had to leave his post in the Obama administration. Van will be on the web tonight via MoveOn.org's Rebuild the Dream Launch Event at 8:15 ET talking about the economy. If you have a chance to tune it, I'm sure you'll find it interesting.

I don't want to seem self-serving AND I do want folks to know about the blog that Fluke sponsors. I'm one of the prime authors (yes, The Snell Group is still 100% independent of sales!) and spend a good deal of time crafting what I think is a pretty good blog, all related to thermography and much of it related to building thermography. Michael Stuart, who created the Home Energy Pros Infrared Thermography Users group, also chimes in weekly with his "what is it?" images, all good fun and a…

Advanced certification for RESNET Thermographers

Posted on March 5, 2011 at 11:30am 1 Comment

I’m just back from the RESNET national conference in Orlando and I am very excited to report that RESNET certification is now available!

What’s needed?

• You must be a RESNET Building Performance Auditor or a Rater

• You must have 3 months experience using thermal imaging and a blower door

• You must have taken a training course that complies with the standards of the American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT)

If you have these…

Rising home energy costs predicted for 2010-11

Posted on November 4, 2010 at 1:00pm 3 Comments

The outcome of the election this weeks makes passage of the Home Star bill in the Senate look, unfortunately, less likely than ever. Rather than invest in efficiency, we seem destined to continue to export energy dollars and/or add to the CO2 blanket we've wrapped our Planet in.…

Hi John:

Thought you might be interested in this news story. I know aerial thermography has been used many places, including London, but do you have an opinion on projects like this?

Seeing heat: Utility generating thermal images of homes from high up
Nov 20 - McClatchy-Tribune Regional News - Jon Ericson Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier, Iowa
Several months from now, Cedar Falls residents will be able to look at a thermal image of their home from a comfortable seat at their home computer.

It will be possible because of two men who crisscrossed the skies over Cedar Falls through the night Thursday, carefully photographing every building in the city with a thermal imaging camera.

Cedar Falls Utilities took advantage of a federal stimulus grant program to create the thermal images. Homeowners and businesses will be able to look at the results and determine if and where more insulation could save money.

The thermal images will display heat loss coming from rooftops.

Pete Olson, CFU energy services manager, said attic insulation provides a lot of bang for the buck.

"It's usually the easiest and most economical way to improve energy efficiency," Olson said.

CFU offers incentives for insulation, picking up 60 percent of the cost for approved, contractor-completed jobs.

CFU teamed with the University of Northern Iowa Center for Energy and Environmental Education and GeoTREE on this project. The CEEE secured a $180,000 grant from the Iowa Office of Energy Independence, money that came from federal stimulus spending.

The two-man crew of George Tatalovich, a pilot from Kucera International of Willoughby, Ohio, and Jason Faulring, an engineer from the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, N.Y., was scheduled to make more than 50 passes over Cedar Falls. On board is $3 million in equipment, using cutting edge technology...for rest of story see:
