HVAC Question about running fan continuously VS setting on Auto so it runs when AC or furnace runs

I get a lot of confusion from homeowners who are told by their HVAC contractor to run the fan "on" all the time.  I realize that these high-efficiency furnaces now have the DC motors that take less…Continue

"Well, I think it completely depends on the purpose and requirement of the test. Testing one unit in the building makes sense but if you are testing for a small apartment then you should follow the HVAC rules of the test. Checking the individual unit…"

Blower door test for small apartment building

Today I received a request to test 4 units for a small apartment building.  He says the building is 32x52 which is 1560 SF.  There is 4 apartments which are 1 bedroom and living room plus bath and small kitchen.  If I test each unit, I suspect they are approx 400 SF.  These units will have to be very tight.  He wants me to open all the doors and test from one end of the hall.  I have never done this is 10 years so not sure this is kosher.Any thoughts.ThanksJerrySee More

Spray foam on attic deck to stop mold

Posted on April 7, 2018 at 8:57pm 2 Comments

I am working with an insulation company who has already applied 2" of closed cell foam over the deck of a roof deck that has been remediated for mold twice. It was thought by spraying the foam, there would be no chance of the mold coming back.  This is a million dollar home in the Chicagoland area and homeowner is trying to sell the home but a private home inspector says the foam will shorten the life of the roof and he has scared off perspective buyers with his talk.  I have told the…
