Reaching out to the experts today to ask about location of installation of a mini split.  I'm a realtor, not an HVAC contractor.   I'm working on a "flip" that will be more energy efficient than most, think HPwES.  For the separate detached casita we are replacing a window AC unit placed in a sealed off window with a new 3 x 3 window and a mini-split.  An HVAC contractor is proposing the muni-split to be installed on the same south facing wall as the newly installed window.  The picture belows…See More

Wonky HVAC System

Posted on September 7, 2016 at 11:24pm 9 Comments

Yesterday I showed a home that was a complete remodel with added square footage.  The original house was 775 sq ft., stick built in 1946, with maybe a 6" crawl space.  The owner added 1000 sq ft to the main house and built a separate finished "workshop" on a separate HVAC system.

Walking around the side of the house, I saw an HVAC system twice the normal width with a faded sticker.  It was a Goodman but that's all I could tell from the outside.  No idea how old it was but the…
