Started this discussion. Last reply by David Butler Dec 19, 2018. 23 Replies

I looked at a large new house today, and saw what I see in almost every house... the fiberglass batt insulation installed under the subfloor between the floor joists has an air gap above it. This…Continue

Air-sealing 101 for new home builders who have failed their blower door tests

Started this discussion. Last reply by Jacob Corvidae Apr 5, 2018. 13 Replies

Looking for web links to good sources of info on air sealing, stuff that would be helpful for builders who need to go through their almost-finished home and tighten it up. I do a lot of testing of…Continue

Fix this leakage?

Started this discussion. Last reply by Bud Poll Feb 16, 2012. 2 Replies

What sort of leakage reduction could I expect if I try to plug all these tiny gaps? This is a typical cathedral ceiling around these parts, 2x6 tongue and groove over 4x beams. In this image we're…Continue

"2018 IECC --- just think, you do have 6 sided encapsulation unlike an attic which see's more of a Delta T then you will see here. Also, in most cases most builders never put anything underneath (crawls especially, some basements) so you still…"

David,

Thanks for the comment.  I was intending to use pressurization, but still am concerned about the liability.  Even a pressurized house can disturb the material; then, with a leaky duct system, there is no assurance the material won't be drawn back in the house.
