Real World Ceiling Fan CFM

Started this discussion. Last reply by Eric Kjelshus Jul 3, 2016. 3 Replies

Has anybody done testing on delivered CFM of ceiling fans? Energy star has a test room where the blades are 40 5/8" from the ceiling, but this rarely happens in living rooms. Perhaps manufacturers…Continue

Have Gas Meter fees/deliver charges got out of hand?

Energy Costs: Progressive or Regressive?

How does Cycles Per Hour affect real world AFUE?

Started this discussion. Last reply by Bradford E. White Dec 30, 2014. 12 Replies

Some claim that modern furnaces have minimized off cycle losses to the point they no longer matter. Oversizing has become a comfort issue rather than an efficiency issue. Is this really true? What…Continue

"Those are DIY install prices - not that cost is relevant now. If the goal is to go carbon free, fuel switching minor appliances helps ready homeowners for shifting the major appliance. We are taking our clients all electric. We feel that if we…"

Recently my 13 yr old Carrier A/C devolved a leak and I chose to replace the system rather than track down the leak and repair the coil. I had been reading about doing manual J calculations and how contractors are scared to death to undersize. I had been talking to co-workers about this and it's an uphill battle getting them to think different than 1 ton per 500sq ft. So I decided to take confidence in correct sizing and "put my money where my mouth is" and install a 2 ton sized…

How SmartHours Plus works: It costs more for electricity during peak periods of high customer demand.

Other factors, like weather conditions and the time of year, also drive electrical prices higher. SmartHours Plus,

sometimes known as Variable Peak Pricing (VPP), allows you to save when costs are lower, or off peak. Peak hours

are 2 to 7 p.m. weekdays, and prices during those hours vary based on demand (see chart). You’ll get advance

notice of tomorrow’s peak price the…
