I was fortunate and honored to particiapate in the recent Whie House event that was intended to be a platform for highlighting the benefits the Weatherization program brings to the entire Weatherization network, both for non-profit and for profit businesses. The number of people in attendance showed the dedication and support for this very needed program. The budget allotted by the Government for this and next year is bismal and disheartening. Please reach out to your representatives and let them know how you feel about the WAP program, we are fighting for their lives here! If you would like to review the recent White House events and presentations, here are the links:

You can see the first part here:

And the second part here:

I send everyone in this group this message, but wanted to reach out to others on Home Energy Pros who may want to be aware of the concern.

Need vs politics, hmmm go figure?

What did deep throat say "follow the money"

Gotta say it Brett, Government does not help business.
Government makes well intentioned efforts, but unintended consequences of those efforts seem to always screw up the effort. The common feature of these programs is government wants liability protection. That ends up bringing certified individuals, accredited (approved?) companies and additional layers of over site, all of which increases cost. Suddenly a 10% incentive to the client just covers the increased cost of doing business for the contractors. Why develop and continue to push programs that are not sustainable without the government subsidy?

It would be much more supportive of these efforts to simply stop supporting fossil fuel price structures entirely. Let big oil hire mercenaries to keep the Straight of Hormuz open and Jihadists out of the distribution and extraction facilities. Suddenly market basics would support weatherzation. Currently the government is paying both big oil and us, but big oil is able to send some funds back to legislators and executives who control the flow of their profits. Our stipend is very small and shrinking because we are not hiring, and we don't send 6 or 7 digit contributions.

We are not hiring because the funds we need to do that are predestined to overhead to support current business. The only way to be viable is to be part of a much larger organization and spread the overhead to more volume, something 90% of the small shop hands on firms are not interested in or capable of.
