Hi Luis,

I'm not sure what the NYSERDA specifics would be, but in basic terms, a skylight is just a window in a sloped roof (typically).  So picking the right frame and glazing characteristics and putting it into a sloped roof should do the trick.

If the skylight has a chase (the ceiling is not the underside of the roof) you may need to add a section of sloped roof to the conditioned space, just bigger than the skylight itself, and put the skylight into that section of roof.

If the chase has a particularly large exposure to the attic it's running through, best practice would be to add some wall in the conditioned space, adjacent to the attic.  This is probably irrelevant if it's a small exposure or is insulated similarly to the rest of the ceiling (and/or you're not going to improve it notably different than the rest of the ceiling).

Is this helpful?

Ethan, that is pretty clever! Thanks, your answer worked perfectly...
