This is what was behind by an inexperienced home performance contractor

This is what appeared on the walls of a homeowner after an inexperienced contractor conducted a retrofit on her home. this is a large HVAC company that is participating in a utility energy upgrade program. I am surprised that this did not happen sooner, I have been warning the Utility and the contractors that they were ignoring the moisture issues in the homes that were being retrofitted. Nothing like being sued by an angry homeowner to bring every one back to reality.

And I'll bet they're "BPI Certified".  Likely another "One week wonder"; took the course and now they're experts.  And they have the funds to tout how great they are.  Too bad that the general public believes all the empty words they hear and read.  No need to check with past customers I guess.  And why have an independent audit; the "all-in-one" shops can do the job for less.

that's not nice --- you can't pass the one week BPI cert course w/o having some experience and training besides.  And I know some people with years of experience that just didn't get the whole what-to-do-with-the-water-off-the-roof issue.  You have to be wired for detailed observation.

Thank you for helping to make my point Kari.  It wasn't nice that the homeowner (or the taxpayers) were ripped off, and I don't know how to comment on that and still be nice.  I believe it's time to be nasty to the opportunists that are using good programs to simply pad their bank accounts, without any regard to the welfare of the recipients.  This particular condition could harm the health of the occupants, as well as the structural health of the house.

--- my point was that agencies can tend to attract (and keep) people who don't know or care what they are doing and that has been going on long before BPI was founded and long before the Feds required BPI certification for those workers (at least where I am located).  Also for some (not all) people who receive these services motivation only runs to receiving free-bees (fuel assistance audits) and not changing lifestyle to increase energy conservation (read that -- come fix my house because it wasn't working right when I bought it and I'm too broke to fix it but I don't want to quit smoking, swimming in my backyard pool or feeding my three big dogs or using 4 window AC's -- OK just let me finish the rest of my paperwork and I'll show you how to completely close your windows).
