Anyone like to share their favorite ways to speed up duct airtightness ("Ductblaster") tests?

I'm especially interested in best practices for existing homes - retrofit pre-seal testing, registers and grilles are in place and so on.  Time is money!  But if you have new home test tricks to offer, please do for the benefit of all members.

What is your opinion/experience with:

grill mask/duct mask tapes?

Ventcaps? (durability?)

Duc-Blocs?

Magnetic sign material?

Foam blocks (eg. used to hold high pressure under Aeroseal)

Other?

Best ways you have found to connect duct tester to central grilles or furnace blower compartment.

Anyone ever try using drywaller stilts to move around the house to reach high wall/ceiling registers and grilles?

Open to hearing about short cuts you have found which speed things up greatly even if absolute accuracy suffers a bit, especially if the result is a slight under-measurement of true leakage.

Thanks!

The Home Performance Forum archives include a number of discussions on various methods for sealing registers, although I don't recall drywaller stilts ever being mentioned.

Thanks David, great that you can pull up past archived posts ... is there a search system or do you just have an awesome memory!?

I'm currently playing around with supermagnets, will let all know what i learn.

The Home Performance archives site (re: HP Forum Archives tab on main menu) has a two-tier search engine. There's a quick search box at the top of the archive forum frame. There's also an Advanced Search page (linked just below quick search box), where you can use booleans and other operators, as explained on that page.

I have a pretty decent memory for previous discussion topics but I could never find them without the search engine. LinkedIn's lame group search engine is one of the main reasons I moved the RESNET BPI group to a stand-alone platform. I use booleans and 'exact phrase' searches to great effect to find what I'm looking for.

BTW, the Home Energy Pros search box is found on the forum and group pages. The search box at the top of the main forum page (click Forum tab) searches all of the public forum categories, whereas the search box at the top of each forum category page only searches within that category. Ditto with the search box on group pages. Apparently there's no way to search forum and group discussions at the same time.

Home Energy Pros doesn't have an advanced search engine but since the site is accessible to search engine crawlers, it's possible to do boolean and other advanced searches via Google: https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/2466433?hl=en
